Consumption Statistics 2024
Spending and consumption patterns of the population are key indicators in assessing a country’s socioeconomic conditions. These indicators serve as the foundation for policies aimed at achieving more equitable welfare distribution and addressing food security issues.
The results of the March 2024 National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) indicate a greater increase in average monthly per capita expenditure on food commodities compared to non-food commodities.
Engel's Law states that as income increases, people initially allocate more of it to food consumption. However, beyond a certain threshold, they tend to shift their spending toward non-food consumption.
