Several regional agencies and officials attended the Chili Planting Movement activity which was initiated by the Tarakan City Government in collaboration with Bank Indonesia on Thursday (13/06) in the backyard of the Tarakan Mayor's Office.
The Chili Planting Movement was carried out as an effort to control regional inflation by increasing chili production. Until the planting program started, 1,000 chili seeds were provided. There were 600 seedlings planted, while the rest were handed over to farmer groups to be planted on their land.
It is hoped that this activity will not only be ceremonial but also sustainable, being the first step for a better future for Tarakan. It is hoped that this step will help maintain affordable prices for important basic commodities, especially ahead of national religious days.
Furthermore, grant assistance for agricultural production facilities for the 2024 fiscal year was handed over from the Department of Agriculture and Food Security in the form of fertilizer, carts, manual and electric handsprayers, harvest baskets and cultivators to representatives of farmer groups.
